Quick Durban Information

Durban is the third largest city in South Africa, in terms of population. It is well known as having the busiest port in Africa as well as being the largest city in KwaZulu-Natal. Due to it's warm sub tropical climate and it's position on the Indian Ocean, Durban is a thriving tourist destination.

Originally Durban was called Port Natal after being founded by British settlers. The city has the largest population of Indians in South Africa due to the fact that workers were brought from India to work the sugar cane plantations. Like most of South Africa Zulu is the most common language in KwaZulu-Natal, however almost everyone does speak English. Unlike the rest of the country Afrikaans is spoken far less in Durban than the rest of South Africa.
